Let’s Dig Into History at Archives Lanark!

CREATING A WRITTEN RECORD FAMILY HISTORY - 2 DAY WORKSHOP

The workshops will be held at our Drummond Centre location:1920 Drummond Conc. 7.

After each session we encourage participants to explore our archives and continue their research with the assistance of our experienced volunteers.

Our Guest Speaker will be Kyla Ubbink of Ubbink Book and Paper Restoration. Ms. Ubbink provides book & paper conservation, restoration and preservation consultation services. Discover the facts you need to uncover your ancestral past by attending one or all of our “dig into history” sessions. Each “dig” will be led by an experienced genealogical researcher who will present information on specific topics and follow up with a question & answer period.

Our Guest Speaker will be Mr. Ted Outerbridge

Mr. Outerbridge is an Illusionist and Historian who has been investigating the history of his Keyhole House in Smiths Falls. Many queries received by rchives Lanark this past year related to homeowners wishing to learn the history of their homes. Mr. Outerbridge will share the journey which led him to understand and uncover the secrets of his unique home.

Archive Lanark 2020 AGM & Open House

Local Author Ron Shaw will delve into the question of when the first female vote was cast in Ontario. Elections Canada and multiple histories of politics will tell you that the first woman to vote in, what is now Ontario, did so in the general election of 1844. Ron W. Shaw will explain how, a quarter of a century before those female votes were documented in Halton, Ellen McGrath-Simons (1774-1861) of Drummond Township cast her vote at the Perth Military Settlement in the legislative assembly of July 1820. The

Did you know that Irene Spence, Shirley Jones-Wellman, Rose Mary Sarsfield, Mike Jaques and Marilyn Snedden have all authored books dealing with various facets of life in Lanark County? They will be on hand to discuss what inspired them to delve deeper into their roots.
